This lookout tower was constructed in 1933 to guard against fires in the San Bernadino National Forest. The towers were no longer needed years ago so the forest service closed most of them. Today a lot of them have been restored and staffed by volunteers during the summer, some are even available for overnight stays. May 30 was the first weekend of the 2004 summer season the towers are manned, Jim & Dianne Sterling were enjoying the day and on the lookout for fires.
This tower is stands among a field of communications towers but it still has a great view. Located above Highway 18 The fire stopped just below the ridge here and didn't jump over into Twin Peaks and Lake Gregory.
